Urban Rooftop Kindergarten 2017
The Rooftop Kindergarten's unique location provides an alternative to the lack of space for Kindergartens in the city.
Adjacent to Allenby Street in a vibrant, bustling urban neighborhood in Tel Aviv, the 120 m² space went through extensive renovations in order to meet the specific needs for an educational space. Now, a generous rooftop with sweeping city views and two classrooms for varying ages exists in its place. The urban landscape inspired the design of the space and served as a prominent design motif throughout, connecting the children to the culture of the city. The Kindergarten is characterized by a concise, formalistic design language that adheres to the pedagogical needs. Iconic architectural buildings and sculptures in Tel Aviv served as a source of inspiration for the artistically designed wall panels throughout the space. The Kindergarten design mission required space planning that considered both functionality and aesthetics. The result is an intimate space that provides an overall positive learning experience that promotes imagination.
